97 Firebird wheel offset
Im looking at a set of rims my GF wants to put on her 97 Firebird.
They are made by Alba they are 17 inch by 7.5 inch wide.
7.5 wide is the only width they have for these I believe.
Is the offset for a 2000 camaro of 55mm on 8 inch wide rim the same for a 1997 firebird?
The tire we want to put on it is a 245/45/17 Michelon Pilot.
The rims come in a +21mm and +45mm offset.
Do you think the +45mm rims would work on her car?
With the narrower rim how close to the stock tire do you think the tire will be in relation to the wheelwell?
Thanks for any help
John

Re: 97 Firebird wheel offset
All 4th Gen 16x8" wheels are 55mm offset - I'll add that to the FAQ.
Not sure about going to a narrower wheel, but if that's what you want.....
With the +45mm offset, the outer edge of the tire is going to be about 1/8" farther out than the stock tire on the stock wheel. You will not notice the difference and nothing will rub.
With the +21mm offset, the outer edge of the tire moves outward another 0.95", so now your tire edge has moved out 1.10" from the stock wheel/tire position. That puts it very close to the edge of the fender in the front. While that look is fairly aggressive with a really wide tire, with the tall/skinny tires you are planning to use on a narrow 7.5" wide wheel, its going to look like the wheels are "outriggers".... sort of sticking out too far. That last part is purely subjective, but you need to be aware it might not look to good to some people.
What is the bolt pattern on the wheels? Is it the 5x4.75" (120.65mm) required for a 4th Gen?

This is the wheel
I dont really WANT a narrower wheel but my GF really likes the style and the 245 will fit.
I need to find out about the bolt pattern. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Woulda sucked to get them and not have them bolt up.
Thanks for confirming the offset for me.
