97-99 c5 wheels on 97 Z

I seen a few pics of these wheels on an Fbody and they actually look pretty good, and they are real cheap. My question is am I gonna run into any complications puttin these on my 97 Z28? Fronts are 17x8.5 and rears are 18x 9.5, they are the original vette wheels. Will I still be able to drop car an inch or so with 275 or 285/35/18's?

Thanks

Re: 97-99 c5 wheels on 97 Z

The real 97-99 C5 17x8.5" wheels are 56mm offset. That puts the fit in the front just about in between the stock 8" wide wheels and the stock 9" wide WS6/SS wheels. So there shouldn't be any problem in the front.

A real C5 18x9.5" wheel has a 61mm offset. That puts them a bit deep in the wheel well (7.60" backspace). Shouldn't be a problem. The inside edge of the tire could be close to the fender liner, but not close enough to rub.

Shouldn't have any problems lowering the car.

Re: 97-99 c5 wheels on 97 Z

I have set on my 95 Z28 that came with the car and they are off an actual C5. I was just wondering about the same question and thanks for answering because the 18's on the back of my car only have a 245/35/18 and I am going to be getting new tires soon, so I was looking at a 275/35/18 or a 255/35/18 if a 275 was not going to fit.

Thanks, I've seen some pics of them on camaros just didn't know what they went through to get em to work right.
Injuneer, by deep in the fender well do you mean that they will have a wider stance or narrower with that offset?
Also do you know if the vettes came with 275's or 285's on the rear wheels?(I assume the fronts are 245's because of the rim width.)
Thanks again.

i have them on my silver car,for starters you need to buy the corvette rear wheel studs factory camaro ones are too short, you will have to use a 5-10lb. sledgehammer for the tire to clear the flap on the outside of the LCA out back on both sides, you can lower the car(NOY SLAM) without interference w/fender lip.i have 285/40/18s and i lowered the rear roughly 2.5''as for the front i did not lower it at all with the c5s and the tire is a 245/40/17 take a look at my pics in cardomain below(silverbullet)

I have them on my car...275 in front...295 in back, lowered 1.5 all the way around and no real problems. A little pounding is required in the rear but nothing drastic. Good luck, here are a few pics to make sure we're on the same page.

I have a set on my 96 and the rears rub lightly only on the incline to get up my driveway. I've got 245s on the front and 275s on the back. We pounded the rear wheels wells a little.

No you will not need wheels studs from a C5. The studs on all 4th gens are long enough to work with the wheels you're looking at. You'll most likely need to center your rear a bit, since the rears on 3rd and 4th gens has a tendency to move a bit. You'll also probably need to pound your inner fender above the bumpstop and above the LCA. You tires may rub on the LCA if you roadrace your car. I encountered that last summer when I was at the track last summer. I run 265/35/18s up front and 295/35/18s in the rear. And my car is lowered about 1.5-2".

gee thats funny cause my 95 and my 96 both had to have the studs changed if not the lug nuts would only turn 4 turns,c5 wagon wheels...

What lug nuts are you using? I've never hear of this problem before.

stock factory f-body lug nuts, the rear wheels are thicker in this area!infact i initially planned on putting a set of wagon wheels on my 95 formula till i hit this snag with the factory f-body studs being too short...

Re: 97-99 c5 wheels on 97 Z

Hmm, I have 4 18" wheels which are the rear C5 wheels and all of them fit just fine on my car. They also have fit on every other fbody I've put them on. They even fit on a S10 without a problem. Are you sure someone hasn't replaced the studs on your car before and just got the wrong length?

Also, what do you mean by thicker? What area are you talking about?

Re: 97-99 c5 wheels on 97 Z

now that would be too ironic to have the studs replaced on 5 different cars, are your c5 factory rims or aftermarket, mine came off of my buddies 97 vette that he bought new.as for the length of the original stud(f-body)they were the proper length for the factory salad shooters and the 94-97t/a rims that i had aswell..all i know is what i had to do on my cars and friends cars to get those wheels to fit now the y2k thin bars have no problems same with the new 06 5-stars

Re: 97-99 c5 wheels on 97 Z

The wheels that are on my car are GM stamped.

The only mod I had to make other then pounding the inner fender was grind the inner hub on the wheel, due axle hub being larger on LT1 cars.
