295/45R17 rear wheels

Hi,

Anyone know of any fitment issues with running 295/45R17's on 9.5 ZR1 wheels? I have 275/40R17's on it right now with no problems. Has anyone here tried this combination before and had problems? It's advertised as 1.2 inches taller and .6 inches wider.

Thanks,

#1 - The two sizes are really not compatible... the 295/45/17 is just a much larger diameter, 6.5% larger according to 1010 tires... That means the speedometer is off by ~6+ MPH. I would also bet it will rub just about everywhere....

#2 - Do they even make a tire in that size?? Seems to be an odd size...

To keep things ~close in size most people go to 315/35/17s but if you read the FAQs that means an 11" wheel.

Re: 295/45R17 rear wheels

The 295/45-17 is probably the M/T Drag Radial II. If so, M/T lists the diameter as 27.2" which would be 1.5" larger than a street 315/35-17 (25.7"). It's going to lift the back end a bit, and give the car a "rake". Looks OK for the track, but so-so on the street.

The speedo error will be 6%, which means the speedo will be off 6 MPH ONLY at 100MPH. At 60 MPH, the speed will be indicating 3.6 MPH lower than actual speed. Easy enough to correct in the PCM.

Should not have any problems. What it the offset of the 9.5" ZR1 wheels? If they are the 56mm wheels, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. I got into major clearance issues with 28" slicks, but only when they grew at trap speeds over 125MPH. A radial will not grow like a bias-ply slick. My wheel wells had already been hammered for 315/35s, so I didn't have any rubbing with 28x11.5-15 Hoosier QTPs or 28x10.5-15W ET Drags. The ET Drags are 13.1" section width on 10" wheels, with no problems. It's the 28.1" diameter that was the issue with the opening in the fender, but you shouldn't have a problem with 27.2" tires.

They will make your 3.73's feel like 3.52's (if there was such a ratio).

Re: 295/45R17 rear wheels

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, I was looking around the other forums and found a pic of a guy who did the same thing, it looks good, definitely different, but I think it looks good. I like how the tire swallowed the entire fender. I was hoping for a staggered look... and to increase the height a little because I have a chassis-mount T/A for longtubes, and that wasn't a good idea for Chicago roads. I'll measure the offset when i get a chance, the car is under snow right now. IF I get these tires, should I invest in 4.10 gears?

Here's the link if anyone was interested: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/wheels...some-pics.html

Thanks,
