275/40/17 on 11" rim

I was looking at the specs for 275s on Tire Rack, and the rim range went from 8.5" to 11". The section widths went from 10.8" to 11.1", which were measured on a 9.5" rim.
I assume the section width would increase with the 11" rim, but would it come out past the edge of the wheel, or at least be even with it?
When my 315s wear out in the back, I was thinking of doing this. It's a lighter tire and the whole tread would definitely touch the road, and possibly not wear out more in the center like the 315s.
Does anyone know of this being done, or has seen pictures? I'd hate for it to look like ****.

Your 11" rim is actually 12" wide. Think what a tire with a section width of 10.8" is going to look like.... the tread stays right where it is, and you start moving the beads outward, and the sidewall at the max section width only moves out 1/2 of the difference.

If you are having problems with the center of the tread on your 315 tire wearing out prematurely, I'd look for the cause of that problem rather than give up and switch to a tire that's going to look stretched and offer "0" protection to the lip of the rim.

Oh well, so much for that idea. Thanks

Not sure why the center of the 315s is wearing more than the rest. They are Dunlop SP 8000. When I got them I put in 30 lbs. When I noticed the irregular wear, I dropped the pressure to 25 lbs. I've only had the lower pressure for about 1K miles, so I can't make a judgement yet. Maybe the light weight of the rear is the cause. The front 275s are even across the tire. The stock 245s were even in the back. Time will tell.
