235/45/17 on cragar s/s rims- rides rough

The 98 z28 i just got came with 235/45/17's on cragar s/s rims. I think the tires are kumho proxess(?) anyway the car rides like it has no suspension at all. If the shocks are worn out would they get stiffer? When ever i have had bad shocks before they just got sloppy and loose. Also the tires seem a bit narrow for the car. The rims look preety sweet i guess but i would love to trade with someone for stock rims. Maybe i can find someone locally that will do it,lol. Any recomandations as far as what size 17" tire i should put on and brand?

How wide are the Cragar SS wheels?

What inflation pressure are you running in the tires?

The tire is not only "narrow", its smaller in diameter than the stock tires.

Not sure on the width of the rim, guessing about 8". The tires say max 44 psi so i run about 40. But have tried other pressures too, still rides too stiff. Its actually kinda scary because if there is any road crown or grooves in the road the car goes were it wants too. I think there are some ball joint, tierod and maybe a rack and pinion issue as well.

The max pressure is for a max load rating for that tire. Read the rest of what is said on the tire. For instance it might be 1500 lbs. No way the tire is carrying that much weight. Run the pressure that is on the drivers side door. It is probably around 30 lbs.

I will try 30 psi, shouldnt be a problem since 3 of the 4 tires lose about 10 psi over night, lol. Have to add air every time i drive it. Just dont want to spring for new 17's if i can trade these rims for stock ones.Thanks.

Toyo makes Proxies, not Kumho.
