Not to sound too harsh before the first non-test message gets posted to the board, but the above rules are so our board will not end up like this:

We're looking forward to folks using the board to keep updated on our one-of-a-kind, annual f-body bash. Even though we'll be using this message board, we'll also maintain the mailing list* for folks who prefer that form of communication. If you do chose the message board, we ask that you unsubscribe from the mailing list so that we, the organizers, can keep track of how many folks are using which form of communication.

Obviously, just like the mailing list, this board is for discussion of the National F-body Motorsports Event. And just like the mailing list, our intent is to maintain the same, high, signal-to-noise-ratio that we've always enjoyed. To that end, its critical that you are very familiar with The 10 Commandmants for Posting on the NFME Message Board.

Being that message boards are a new medium for many of us who've been die-hard mailing list subscribers, our worst fear is that the NFME board will degenerate into the kind of bickering, brawling, free-for-all that some of us have witnessed on other boards. I'm sure plenty of you have seen how a few "internet tough guys", trolls and/or immature, pre-pubescent adolescents can destroy an otherwise chummy community. We don't expect that to happen here for two reasons:

This board, just like the mailing list, revolves around an event where we all meet face to face each year. Don't say anything here you wouldn't say to someone elses face.
Our standards here, at a minimum, will be that everyone conduct themselves as friendly, fun-loving, mature adults. This standard is non-negotiable.
For all the veterans of the NFME and most folks that will join us here, these comments are unnecessary no-brainers. But, given the aforementioned folks that can sometimes show up, we won't put up with anybody who tries to screw with our happy little band of f-body trackjunkies .

Anyway, enough of that. I hope you guys enjoy the new message board. See ya at NFME '05!
