well, we have all thought about it right? Well, I went ahead and did it and I have to say I am pretty pleased with the results. I bought a '79 T/A that had a clean body but a few dents. So I did all of the body work then took it to Bear Creek Maaco. $260 for a body shop white paint job. Now, the paint has flaws in it, there's no getting around that. Little bit of dirt and a few sanding scratches but not too bad. I can safely say that most of the problems were not the body shops problem. There are cracks in the fascia, but that was something I should have fixed before I took it in get sprayed. So, it's been almost 6 months and the paint still looks good. Now, keep in mind that this car has decals all over it so it distracts from any of the blemishes.

this worked so good in fact that the car made it in the may issue of Car Craft (p.22)! Like i said, it's not perfect, but we were just trying to build a fun driver for my wife and we ended up doing it pretty cheap. I'm sure it will need a repaint in a few years, but if we would have had to drop 2K on the paint job we wouldn't have built the car. If anyone needs a quick paint job I would suggest talking to Chuck at Maaco off of Clay rd.

 

Is that the new issue with the blue '69 SS Camaro on the front?. If so, I'll check out your car when I get home.

I've actually heard that the Maacos and Earl Scheib's of the world can do a decent job for you if you do all of the prep work yourself.

 

It's the issue with the Yellow nova on the cover. They did a fair job. I did pull everything off the car though- grills, lights, weatherstripping, fender flares....everything. I think if I would have left it on there would have been overspray all over the place. i just took some undercoating to the fenderwells and frame rails.

I couldn't even buy the paint for under $300, no telling what it would have come out looking like.
