Hard starts? Fuel pump?

The past few days my Camaro has been starting hard. It will start then iimmedatly die, then after that I have to crank it for a few min to get it to start? I dont have a dead battery. I think it could be the fuel pump ?

Absolutely. I am in the process of replacing mine right now for the same symptoms. Check your fuel pressure and you will probably see that it is below 41psi or won't hold. If your car emits a puff of black smoke when it finally does start, it could be a hole in the diaphram of the fuel pressure regulator allowing fuel to leak into the vacuum line and into the intake manifold. It starts rich. If you pull the vacuum line off the manifold and you see gasoline in the line, replace the regulator.

If your pressure is low (below 41psi) or will not hold when the pump stops running, it could be the fuel pump or a leaking fuel injector. You will need to insert shutoff valves between the fuel rails and the fuel lines (both pressure and return) to isolate the problem. The factory service manuals do a nice job of describing this process. It only took 15 minutes to isolate the problem to my fuel pump.

Good luck with it. Call Jason Cromer to get a fuel pump for around $150.

After checking the pressure, testing the battery, coil, alternator, replacing then returning the MAP and TPS sensors, it just turned out to be a cloged fuel filter and I put in some injector cleaner. Runs like a champ now!
