Re: Good price for an engine rebuild in Houston?

I checked out this place. It's the place I'm going to use when I have the money.

Good luck.

If you remember after you do it, let me know where you get it done and how much.

Thanks,
Shawn

LT1 engine? I'll tell ya where not to go...don't bother with HPE & depending on what you want don't go to ARD. If you don't care and just want a typical build ARD is great!

1. Motor was there from mid nov. to feb. w/o being touched.
2. At LEAST 1/2 a doezen lies from Scooter!
3. Fellow f-body bud had his lt1 dynoed there and Chuck treated him like it was a BIG inconveniance to do it for him.

That's the legist of it. If u want me to elaborate I will, or if u still got my # u can call me Brook & all tell u ALL ABOUT IT!

Yeah, Chuck at HPE was a dick to me when I got my car dynoed. I wouldn't spend a dime with him. However, Erik at HPE was super helpfula nd friendly when I talked to him on the phone. Scooter from HPE was on the cell phone the whole time I was there - while he checked me out. BigRick's car is fast - that's their only claim to fame as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not bad mouthing, I'm just telling it like it is.

Jeff at MTI is the most professional "salesman" I'm met. Then again, HPE is no where near MTI's caliber. That's coming from someone who isn't a big MTI guy, either.

Oh yeah: HPE also stalled out my car when they drove it into the dyno .

You can't say things like this to people or you start a flame war and people call BS on you - call you a bad customer. Fine with me.

Re: Good price for an engine rebuild in Houston?

Since work is slow, and I've got nothing better to do that whine, I'll indulge...

I took my car to get it dynoed. Scooter told me I could come in on a Wednesday (called him on a Monday) at an agreed time. When I came in, I had to wait about an hour for Chuck to dynotune another car (LS2 GTO with a cam/headers). Not a big deal, I had nothing better to do. Chuck was walking around, so I went up, introduced myself, and shook his hand - all while getting a look of "Uhhh, ok man." He dynoed the car once, I popped off the air filter, and he redynoed. No fan, no waiting time or check of temperature. I asked him about putting a fan in front of it and he said "It won't make a difference for 2 pulls" . The second dyno netted a 30rwhp loss. After looking at the screen, he looked at me with a half grin and said "I'd keep the air filter on."

After going to MTI a few times and getting the snobby routine (Back when Kerry was there...long time ago) and seeing Chuck post on the board, I figured him to be a real down to earth guy trying to start a company with a better attitude. I was wrong. No big deal.

Once again, Erik has been one of the most helpful people I've talked to on the phone. That guy knows his stuff. He's definitely the brains of the mechanical side, and I'm guessing Chuck is the business manager.

That's my story.

Re: Good price for an engine rebuild in Houston?

wow i had a little incident with getting my lt1 tuned at hpe too...waited for 3 hours before he started...worked on my car for like 30 min then did a c6 z06 retune "real" quick, then wouldnt adjust my fuel pressure because "he didnt have a guage"(ITS A F"IN PERFORMANCE SHOP WHO THE **** DOSNT HAVE A DAMN FUEL PRESSURE GUAGE) so all he was doing was compensating my computer for the 52 psi at idle i later found out i had..pulled less hp than it did before ended up getting in a big argument..got my money back and my stock tune put back on and got my *** out of there..havnt been back since...did madz28 and very happy with it
