Engine Shops around the DFW Area

I'm going through the rebuild process of my LT1 short block and here are the shops they I've called and some price quotes from them. Also I will list the places that don't work on the LT1 engine.

Whitten Machine (972)-221-8811
http://www.whittenmachine.com/
$750 rebuild

Metroplex Automotive Machine Shop (972)-285-9873
Mesquite, TX
$1200 rebuild
$1500 +/- roughly for an all forged rotating assembly

Accurate Engine Service (817)-335-4483
Ft. Worth, TX
$1231 rebuild

Allen Motorsports (214)-391-7562
Dallas, TX
Waiting for call/calling them back

Reher Morrison Racing Engines
http://rehermorrison.com/
Contacted them two different times.
First time they said they only do racing engines
Second time after I told them I wanted more of a performance build,
they said they wish they could but since racing season was upon them
they would be to busy
JakeJR actually got his engine in his corvette done by them and recommended them to me.

Calling next:

Calvert's in denton
Engines Xtreme

Places that don't do work on the LT1:

Wells Racing
www.wellsracing.com
Duncanville, TX
Recommended that I call Tim Allen @ Allen Motorsports
Left a voice message, but I'll call back tomorrow if I don't get a call.

AMS - Automotive Machine & Supply
http://www.automotivemachine.com/
They don't work on iron blocks, only aluminum
Recommended I called Accurate Engine, listed above.

So far the places that I've called that I got a quote from where mostly very brief with me as far as options go. Most assumed I wanted a stock rebuild, which is maybe my fault for not saying I wanted more of a performance rebuild than compared to stock. Metroplex was giving more options, but wanted me to visit with them in person as so with the rest of them.

Wanting to get an all forged assembly IF my crank can't be repaired, which I'm sure they could weld on and grind back down and polish back to spec. If I can stick with my original crank, the forged pistons and rods. Going forged because probably next summer I'll be wanted to add nitrous or a supercharger.

After I get quotes from the above places, I'll be going around to meet with several of them in person so they can take a look at my block and crank.

Calvert's in Denton
Engines Xtreme in Flower Mound

A&S over off Keller Springs did some work for me in the past and I wasn't impressed. Places like A&S, SQR, etc. all outsource the machine work and do assembly themselves.

Are you planning on doing assembly yourself or are you wanting to get a long block or somewhere in between?

Well me and my dad would like to do the assembly ourselves and just have the machine shop pretty much get everything ready to get put together. Save some $ that way.

But if the price wasn't too bad, just need the short block built. We definitely got the rest covered.

I do have that $15 Lt1/lt4 rebuild book, so having instructions and torq specs won't be an issue either.

The ONLY place I use for my own and our customer's motors.

It says a lot about a shop when its been in the same location, under the same name and run by the same guy for 50 years.

Thanks for the input!

I'll definitely check in with them and see what they can do for me.

Calvert's has always done my balancing, but I use Whittens for machine work. Very honest people, and straight forward.

Yeah, A&S in Keller is not high on my list either. I don't think I will ever go back there. I have dealt with Allen Motorsports and Calverts. I really liked the customer service and the work from both of these shops.
