enlighten me about the Austin area, please...

I am considering a move to Austin. My brother lives in Round Rock and loves it there, and is trying to get me to move there. I grew up in Oregon and have lived in Vegas for 12 years, so I'm used to heat. I also lived in Shreveport for a year. Any relevant info about the city, area, and car/Camaro scene would be helpfull. I currently have an '88 IROC im working on.
I'm flying down over the July 4th holiday to check the area out. I have been in the auto body industry for 12 years and will be looking for jobs either as an auto body estimator or with an insurance company as an auto damage appraiser. Also need to know what community colleges are in the area as I plan to go back to school while I'm there.

They just opened the Round Rock Higher Education Center, a campus of Texas State University:

It's right down the street from where I live.

On other Austin-area info, most of it is in the other thread.

'88 IROC? Nice!
There's an auto club here in Austin focusing on the 3rd generation of F-bodies so you would fit right in. Feel free to check out the ATGO club at http://AustinThirdGen.Org.

And btw, it's already hot here. Been close to 100 degrees for several weeks, grass is starting to die again due to lack of rain, simply typical Austin.

Too bad you won't be here one week earlier, you'll miss a Texas state-wide gathering of 3rdgen F-bodies.
