Anyone have any information on the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
Anyone have any information on the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
While I was in Cabela's in Fort Worth I bumped into some interesting fellows who were part of a local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and struck up a conversation. It's not like I'm a gun-totin' hillbilly but I am an avid history nut, especially for American history. When I finish with my undergrad degree I plan on pursuing my masters and, eventually, my PhD and I will probably end up focusing on American history. I can meet all the requirements but I was wondering what people knew of this group. I'm not interested in your opinions on the Confederacy, the war, and the South in general, just of your knowledge of the group. Know anyone who's a member? Had any bad experiences with the group?

lol, I've been to the site before and I have searched it. What I am wondering is if anyone has had any personal dealings with the group.

My wife is a Daughter of the Confederate. She really likes it. She has gone to a few of their gatherings and have enjoyed some of the people she has met there. She said there were definately some "sore losers", but for most of it they share stories, relics, pictures, etc. She hasn't been in some time. I would gather to say there are some pretty interesting men that belong to it. The stories passed down from generation to generation are probably better than any history book ever written comming from them!! Hope this helps.

pennys58, that's what I've heard from the professors around campus here. Basically that it's a good organization that has a few nuts speckled in every once and a while, lol. Thank you for your input though, I've been wanting to hear what other people knew of it. Thanks again!
