where in IL to get good shortblock

Need something good but economical. I think the WS6 I just got has a bad motor, shakes, low oil pressure, and down on power
Just need a shortblock as I have lloyd elliot heads coming etc..
I'm about to give up F-bodies and buy a yugo, this is the second car I've gotten hosed on now over the i-net. Guess I should get a clue and see the freaking pos before I buy it.

There is a place called Rick's Racecraft out by joliet. I know they do great work with classic muscle. If they can't help they will probably be able to direct you to another well respected shop. I don't have the number here at work, I'll try to find it when I get home.

Here we go
Rick's Race Craft
1205 Deer St
Yorkville IL 60560

I think Rick's just does suspension/cage work, don't they?
If I were you I'd call Speed Inc and see where they tell you to get a shortblock built.
Why are you ruling out places like Combination Motorsports and Nutek though?

combination motorsports does build some MEAN motors.

I also agree that www.ls1speed.com can build a pretty good motor for ur specifications.

well I was just thinking local and to be honest I don't know that many speed shops and can't afford a top dollar build. I really don't know how much it will be for a descent shortblock so I guess I need to research that a bit. I am just really depressed at this point b/c I bought a 94Z that ended up being not the car it was supposed to be off a forum member here, and now I feel totally hosed on this car as well. The manager of the place I bought car from is supposed to call me tomorrow. I guess we will see how much they care about their customers, but I'm sure they will either not believe me or won't care. I just don't see how people can live with themselves for doing this to another person. I realize with used cars there is some assumed risk, but to be so devious........................................... .

John,
Did you ever get any kind of satisfaction from the person that sold you the car? It's it a shame it wasn't what you thought it was. It looked good in the pictures. Hows the rest of the car?
Thanks again for the Moroso CAI. By the way I got my heads from Lloyd, how about you?

Pick up a used LT1 block and take it to someone like:

AES, Elk Grove Village
www.ls1speed.com
Opel Engineering, Streamwood

If you just want a bottom end with new rings and bearings, maybe you can reuse stock pistons if the block is nice otherwise you need to spring for a .030 overbore and some pistons.

Call up all those places and get price quotes. Bill from Opel is very patient with giving folks a price list.
