y is my firebird slower
yo guys i got a question 2 as ya's. i havent change my rear fluid since i bought my y87 2000 firebird last june and i put 10,000 miles on it so far and i started putting 87 octane gas in it since i dont wanna pay the $2.15 a gallon for 89 which i have been putting in since i bought the car. do u think these are the reasons y my car laks the acceleration it used 2 have?

How many miles does it have total? There could be a lot of different things. The difference in gas should only be minimal. Have you changed your fuel filter, spark plugs, made sure you air filter is clean? You shouldn't need to change rear end fluid, but I would do it anyways....as I change mine every year.

There are a slew of things that could be causing this. Bad sparkplugs or wires is a good start. Check the condition of a plug or two. Check to make sure the wires are not damaged or feel like they have a hardened bulg in them. Check the fuel filter. The catalytic converter could also have gone bad; these cars are notorious for wasting catalytics really quick. Also make sure that your coolant, oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid are all in good condition and at the proper level.
How is your gas mileage? Have you noticed anything other than a lack of acceleration? Does it hesitate, rough idle, stall, rev? It will take a lot more information than you have given us to properly diagnose this problem, so please try to be as descriptive as possible. And throw in some better grammar too, of you could please; it makes reading a lot easier.

I reccomend fuel filter and plugs and wires...
plugs and wires are known for getting killed by heat prematurely in f-bodies and it will hurt performance. Check the top of this section for a thread called "the great misfire mystery" gives lots of info on this.
also is it just one tank of gas or on average? Every now and then you can get a bad tank of gas that makes your car run like crap.
