Hey Russell!

Thanks everyone for bringing this thread back into the realm of tech discussion and out of the flamebait category!

sup ****.

i should correct myself. my 3100 conversion got me from 164hp->200hp and 215tq->245tq

so thats a gain of 36 hp / 30 tq - however that is crank not rw. rw went from 142->170 and rwtq went from 185->207, only a gain of 28rwhp and 22rwtq. so..

i guess its not that big a deal..cept for it IS all still as-it-came-from-the-factory parts. havent ported or polished anything. o well. anyhow. boost your 3.4, you'll be happy :-D

I had a 3.4 liter 95 Camaro and a 3.8 liter 98 Camaro a few years ago. I think I would have ran a nice turbo setup on the 3.4 engine than the 3.8 liter engine. I just trust it more under boost situations. If im not mistaking, aren't certain year 3.4's pretty much forged bottom end from the factory?

All 60*-V6's from 1985 up have forged cranks and rods from the factory.
Before 1985 some 2.8's were breaking cranks for no reason, I think that is the first year for forging.

They're not forged.

The 3.4L Crankshaft is made out of Nodular Cast Iron - just like the LT1 and LT4. So it will handle some power

But yes, the factory connecting rods in the 60* V6 engines ARE factory forged steel with a GM rating of 7000rpms.. But they still have factory defects, inclusions, that are weakpoints.. So unless you're increasing power a TON or want a real high revving motor you have no reason to upgrade them.

Cast nodular is strong enough.
With 2.65'' mains and 2.0'' rod jornals it should be hard to break.
GMPP sells forged cranks.
The only way I have been able to break one of those rods is a miss ballanced engine.

Nope, nobody makes a forged crank for the 60 degree V6 engines. Not yet anyways...

But you CAN get an all aluminum block from them.

I must have thought it was some thing else.
A long time ago I think they had forged 2.8 cranks for sale, they had to have? Might have been seeing things. I know they offer less stuff like that now compaired to about 4yr ago when I started looking.

you ppl need to lay off. people have to learn sometime. to all those picking on this guy -- you weren't born into the world with knowledge of your cars.

dont knock someone for not knowing, help them. cause if you think they are stupid, well you are just showing how you felt about yourself when you were coming up in the automotive world.

if you really have to pick on ppl - i feel sorry for you.

its one thing to not know anything about cars - its quite another to ignore everyone trying to tell him how it is...
