Weird sound during cold start up.
Weird sound during cold start up.
When i mean cold i mean like 20-40 degrees. It comes from the front, maybe bottom of the block area. And it only does it on a cold start up. First thing i thought was possibly the oil pump.
I'm using 10w30 right now, gonna swtich to 5w30 next oil change.
Sounds like a granular sucking, a crackliing, etc. I did find metal in oil pan after my last oil change, but my borther changed his right before me and the drain pan was dirty from before. So i'm tempted to change the oil just to make sure it's not the oil pump.
Any other possiblities?

Re: Weird sound during cold start up.
You could have metal in the pan or it could be something else, very hard to say with out hearing it myself. Before you change the oil pump (they usually last the life of the car, I have never needed to chang one and had cars with 187,000 267,000 123,000 and 113,000 miles on them) Check the oil pressure on start up and while it idles it should be around 30 - 40 psi (just above the 1/4 mark) and when you rev it a little it should climb to about 60 psi (1/2 mark). Once you do this let me know
