A 3.7L???? I'm sure you meant 3.8, but anyway, you'll need a complete engine assembly because each component is different with the 3.8.

Then you'll need to swap the transmission (your best bet for cost reasons is if you have an A4 stick with an A4, or if you have an M5, go for the M6) becasue even though they are both 4L60Es on both the V6s and V8s, the bolt patterns are completly different on the V6/V8 trannys.

The LT1 radiator uses an additional steam line on the RH tank, and an oil cooler/heater return line on the LH tank, so you'll need to swap that also because the LT1's also use a low coolant sensor as well. Because the LT1 is reverse flow cooling, the coolant hoses are in different locations and have bleeders installed. The A/C hose is also different.

The V6s and V8s operate at the same psi, but the V8s use a higher volume fuel pump assembly. Not required, but a friend of mine kept his 3.8L fuel lines but he had to modify them to fit the engine and ended up with an engine fire. Not pretty. I suggest you change those as well.

You'll need at change the gauge cluster, otherwise the oil, water and tach readings will not be accurate. The readings are different, although I'm not sure about the sending units.

You will need to change the PCM and engine harness.

The LT1 engine cradle is formed different to sit lower. You'll need the LT1 mounts. You will want (but not really nessesary) the front LT1 coil springs to effectively hold the weight because the V8 is obviously heavier, otherwise you will have sh!ty handling and your front end will sit way too low.

You don't really need to change the brakes, but the Z28s do have rear disc brakes. 1 other thing, do NOT get an LT1 equipped with the ASR/Traction Control (unless you REEEEEAAAALLY want it) because the ASR unit is operated by a different computer and it requires special components (calipers, and a rear end change, ect) so you'll pretty much have to gut your entire car.

A key tip: you'll want to go with a 96 Lt1 since you have a 96 car. That way nothing else needs to be changed for a trouble free swap (trouble free I mean to get the car running normally, the swap isin't easy!).

Sorry for the big post, these are just the things that were nessesary when my friend and I swapped his 3.8L. It took us about 2 weeks to do it, but that was with all the trial and errors so hopefully I saved you quite a bit of time. We're doing my 3.4L hopefully in the next month or so. It's basically the same (I HOPE!). Good luck! It's not that easy, but think of the insurance money you'll save instead of buying a Z28 plus the money you'll save from labour costs if you do it yourself. I recommend, get a friend to help.

How much did all that cost him? I'm curious, can a LS6 or an LT4 corvette engine be placed in our six bangers?
