from a v6 to a v8....
the stock LS1 5.7 from the newer (?98+) maro is a really good engine that is strong with hp etc., and reliable etc., and also does fairly well with mpg (something like 26/27 highway). Further, I know if you have the same year V6 car the swap is not really that crazy (fits OK but of course need to swap a few things like electronics, ?tranny ) but I'm not sure what extra it would involve with the 88 you listed, like the idea Karest had over in the LS1 forum with a carb set up though... personally if I was to do something like that it would be purely for the fun of it (i.e. project) as it would probably turn out about the same or cheaper to just buy a used LS1 car that needs a little work etc., but that's just my 0.2
