V6 Questions
I have a 95 V6 3.4L Camaro, and I was just wondering what all of yalls opinions are on what the best mods are for increased horsepower, and i was wondering what yall thought was the best exhaust system for my car would be in terms of power, performance, and sound reasons, mainly i want it to sound better, but of course i want the performance as well, any help would be greatly appreciaited... Thanks~
Common question. Most people recommend the whisper lid or at least filing off the fins one your stock air lid and getting a hose to by pass the air silencer (98+ only). Or get a cold air intake. Then there is exhaust mainly its between dynomax and flowmaster (unless you are willing to spend a lot on it). I don't know much about flowmasters, but I put a dynomax on my V6 (when it was mine) and it had a nice throaty sound. Only get a k&n if you want it because it is reuseable don't get it for hp gains because the gain is less then 1hp. There are many other mods these are among the most talked about.

A 3.4L Camaro will never be a fast car without investing thousands of $$$$, but they are very fun to drive and own. Some cheaper things for increased throttle response and seat of the pants power is a free flow air intake from Moroso or SLP and the same with exhaust, Flowmaster, Dynomax all will give about the same gains. I bought a takeoff SS catback and had it installed and it sounds very mean at low RPM's and is hardly raspy at all above 3K Rpm's. Got it for a little over $100. Next maybe a set of Underdrive Pulley's to replace the stock ones so more HP is free to go to the rear wheels. By doing these 3 mods you should notice a difference in performance and maninly in sound.

Never let anyone tell you that your car can't be fast. Or that it costs too much money to make your car fast. These are simply not true. There are plenty of performance goodies for your car at really good prices. But you do have to remember that the faster you want to go, the more money you have to put into the project. Finding parts for you car will be hard to do because no one really considers that car to be a performance car. If you were to go to your local speed shop and ask for a specific goodie for your car, they are likely to tell you that they no one carries it. What you have to do is look and ask for upgrades labeled as "general" or "universal". This is how I found a really good nitrous system for my 97 camaro v6. I recommend that you get an aftermarket intake and exhaust first. Look for headers later because the stock manifolds just might be good enough for your application since they make help you make more torque depending on what you do to the car. If you're looking for a chip or custom programming, good luck. I recommend buying a Venom 400 engine controller. This will give your car way quicker throttle response that you'll definitely notice. And you can turn it on or off as you please. And if you can't find a camshaft, which i aslo recommend, any good cam dealer can grind you a cam for your specific application. Try comp cams! Email me for my combo that produces about 350 horses from my 3.8l v6.

Well first of all, the 3.4's do not have whisper lids, and yes you can make your car fast. V8 fast no, but you will be able to make it a quik little rocket. I am currently running low nine 1/8 on stock motor, yes I have put alot of money in to it but it is always fun to run 5.0's and then say " it is just a 6." Try to pick up a set of headers, high flo cat and a flomaster muffler. Then if you can get a N.O.S. kit form a late 80's mustang, stage 1 kit, it is a 75-80 shot and is the exact same set up as all the other fuel injected cars.
it's funny...everytime someone new posts about a 3.4, someone has to come and say it'll never be fast blah blah........
anyways, like the others said, get a cold air intake and exhaust system first. and i highly reccomend getting a set of underdrive pulleys, good, fairly cheap gain. And if you can do it yourself (big PITA) or get someone to install it for cheap, go for a cam, read up on it first to find the best cam, there's quite a few out there if you look. Also, if you've got an m5, aftermarket shifters feel soooooo much more solid than the sloppy stock shifter

yes you can make your car v8 fast. all it takes is some thought. mix the right parts and don't try to go overboard. i have a zex 100 horse nitrous kit on my car and it works fine. nitrous kits aren't that expencsive and make about the same power as a 6lb supercharger for 3 times less money. the trick to your engine is to try and cram as much air into it as possible. if i were you i would call MILLENNIUM AUTOSPORTS in portsmouth, va and ask them some questions. these guys know a lot about power and how to make. then sit down with a clean sheet of paper and carefully plan out what you want to do. but you have to remember you'll never beat v8's unless you use nitrous or a supercharger.
