V6 Questions

I had my heart set on a 93+ Z28 or Firebird Formula, but it looks like I won't have enough money

What are the stats for say, a 97 Firebird V6 automatic? What 1/4 mile time and 0-60 could I expect? Whats the horsepower and torque?

Also, is there any kind of aftermarket for the V6 f-bodies? Whats the common mods, and how much do they help?

Thanks.

The link in the first post will have times on it. The hp is 200 and torque is 225. Yes there is an aftermarket for them, but its not huge. Exhaust is a good mod.

Don't worry about it. I drove around a 95 3.4L for a few years, and LOVED IT. It is no where near as fast as my current car, but it had no rattles, and not as bumpy as a ride. And it was still fun to race it up and down the roads against rice cars. So i recomend getting an exhaust, and a stereo system. I upgraded my speakers on my last one, and put a CD player in it. I loved it to death and miss it, but i Love my performance finally

If you get a 1997, it will be a 3.8L engine. As stated, 200 HP and 225 torque. If you get an automatic, save yourself the work later on down the road and get one with the Y87 package.

Wish I would have known that back when I got my car...gear and LSD swap wasn't so bad, it was finding a way to fix the computer.

Common mods are to add an intake, pair it with an exhaust. That alone makes the car feel much better. If you get a Y87, you'll already have 3.42 gears instead of the YUCK 3.08s. It all really depends on what you would like to do with your car and how much you are willing to spend on it.

Good luck!

I second the intake and exhaust idea. Your v6 will sound alot better, and still have maybe 220 fwhp. That ain't all that bad. Good enough to crush the ricers with.

definately a good exhaust with maybe a CAI would wake the car up. then maybe looked for a rear end cause it makes a difference when launching and things like that.

A 6 cyl is plenty fun to drive, I could of gotten an 8 cyl, but when i saw the insurance rates, cause i was 17 at the time, i passed. I get the 8 in a few years when i can handle the insurance rates. Although the 6 cyl doesnt have the power to stalk down just about any common car like the 8, you can still melt the tires, just like the 8, If thats your thing.

Thanks for all the help!

No one answered my most important question though.. What 1/4 mile time would a 1997 (3.8l) Automatic Firebird pull?

How about with intake, exhaust, and 3.42s?

It would probably range anywhere from 15.5 to 15.9.

This should make it to the lower 15's.

All of this depends on weather, location, and track conditions though...lots of variables.

Yep, I posted from 15.8-16.2 last night before my post got deleted, because i am now back to my old s/n.

I said:
Cold Air .1 to .2
Exhaust .1 to .2
Gears .1 to .2

Should be in low to mid 15's with those mods
