V6 question

How similar is a FWD V6 to a V6 in a Camaro. I have a 98 3800 with 126,000 on it and it has a bad lifter click. I was wondering how similar the FWD 3800s are to the Camaros 3800. Would I be able to get a 3800 out of a 2000 grand prix and drop it in and if not what kind of modifications would i have to do? Thanks

Re: V6 question

The engines themselves are identical... no modifications needed besides swapping the exhaust manifolds. I don't remember exactly, but there might also be a difference in the intake manifolds, but if that's the case you can always reuse your old one.

Re: V6 question

how diffrent are the accessories?

Also, since we are swaping the motor, what are your thoughts of puting a GTP motor in it? Supercharger and all, do you think it would fit under the windshield #1 and #2 where would the hole for the intake come out to attach the air lid to? I am fully aware that the GTPs motor is transversely mounted. I am just wondering if anyone has a GTP here or knows where the intake comes out for sure, thanks alot guys.

Re: V6 question

Don't even waste your time trying to put that roots blower in your FBody. The work and modification involved wouldn't be justified by the gains you would see. The Inake on a GTP blower is on the drivers side of the car, meaning, it would be against your firewall... not a good place. Best bet is to just switch the short blocks out, and call it good.

Re: V6 question

the supercharger will not fit under our hoods.... actually, under the windshield. You can use the engine, swap on your old manifolds and intake and old accessories as well as your oil pan I believe as well. essentially, the only thing you will be using is the engine itself. Oh... and if you get the supercharged engine, I believe you have to use your old heads as well. Would be a great swap having the strengthened internals and lower compression if you are going to put a turbo/ centifugal super on.

Re: V6 question

If he has to do an Engine Swap... would a V8 be that much more expensive to drop in? If not, I'd say got for an LT1 or LS1...

Yes. especially an LS1 because of the need to re-wire the whole friggin mess, tranny wont mate up, buy a new one, none of your accessories will work, buy them, front suspension, guage cluster, radiator, K-member not to mention even an LT1 engine is going to be more expensive than a 3.8, let alone all the other crap you have to buy. Not that its not do-able, just not even close to the same monster of just swapping a 3.8 for a 3.8
