V6 heater problem

I just signed up here and would like to ask a question. A friend has a 94 Camaro 3.4 V6 and the heater just doesn't get as hot as it should. It has a new 195 degree thermostat but the temp gauge only comes up to the first mark and on these cold morning it will barely get warm. I traced both hoses from the engine to firewall and didn't see any heater control valve outside. Is there one inside or do ya'll have any other suggestions?

Thanks

It is pretty common for the heater cores to get clogged up and they don't perform as well as they should. Take the heater core out and try flushing it out with a hose.

I'm betting that heater core has never been touched or cleaned out....it's 12 years old...toss it.

All that thing is is a mini radiator....12 years of crap won't come out easily.

The temp sensor is in the front of the driver's side head. If the engine coolant isn't getting above 160° it isn't a problem in the heater core. Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open, although I know you said it was just replaced.
