Re: V6 Driveshaft busted...again(?)

Great choice bro! I did the same thing. I modded the hell outa my V6 and i could still barely hang with GT mustangs stock. Solution: LS1 ! Go with an LS1, not the LT1. If you have enough money (and it sounds like you do) Mod for mod, the ls1 will always win.

Also, in test driving, don't make the mistake of thinking the LT1 is faster, because it hits peak torque earlier but has no upper end compared to the ls1 and the ls1 pulls hard and keeps pulling up near and past 6000 rpm.

And if you're looking for a good car, I have a friend whos selling a 98Z A4 102k miles really well kept for $8K. And check out this site's articles page for whats rare from year to year, and pick out options you'd want on your car. and DONT buy the first one you drive if ya know what i mean, definately shop till you find what you want.

Well i got a quick Question for ya'll i have a 96 base model, nothing too special, but i'm extremly worried about the center drive shaft bearing, i want to replace it, but i can't find just the bearing anywhere, i don't want used i want new, i wanna go to an aluminum ds but my old car tech teacher said its best to stick to original, he's a good guy and i respect him and he's allowing me to use the press at the shop, so if anyone has any sites or place to go, let me know, plz, and would Allstate transmission be able to get one in? i've yet to ask them. much obliged.

When you get a used drive shaft you have to take it to the machineshop to be checked for ballance and if its an aluminum drive shaft with the funny fixed yokes (stock GM aluminum drive shaft) you should have them replace the U-joints. Changing u-joints in one of those aluminum drive shafts should be left to the machine shop.

You can't replace just the bearing.

I wound up buying a new one piece driveshaft from a shop in Florida when my V6 Firebird's driveshaft snapped in half two years ago because I couldn't readily find an old one from a Z28. Wound up costing about $200 after shipping.

http://www.driveshaftpower.com/camarodriveshaft.html was what I bought. Snapped right in and it worked perfectly.
