Question V6 Driveshaft busted...again(?)

Okay guys, this is a brain stumper...

I have a '98 3.8L V6 automatic, and with my thousands of dollar of upgrades, I've estimated a rough 275 RWHP (I'm probably blowing my own horn here). Anyways, meraculously I've managed to bust two (2!) driveshafts, both at the center link bearing, and an additional blown head gasket.

My question is:

WTF IS GOING ON HERE?
The first question I usually get is "how often do you peel out?" The anwser is: probably once or twice a month, and ususally while its raining. I've had half a dozen mechanics look at my car, and they all say that it's probably because I drive the car too rough (which I thought was BS because how can a V6 do this much damage(?)). Whats going on guys? I honestly baby this car better than i do my wife!

P.S. look at my upgrades and tell me what I'm missing. I'm lacking power, and i still dont know where.

Re: V6 Driveshaft busted...again(?)

i hate to burst your bubble but all your mods are like appearance and sound? new drive belt and PVC those are mods? electric super chargers hey what did you mom say about stealing her blow driers? lol j/k

if your snapping v6 drive shafts at the center which i find really odd why not just throw in a v8 drive shaft?

and your poll makes just about as much sense as your mod list does?

by the way welcome to the site

You could pick up a steel LT1 driveshaft used off one of the board members for around 15 bucks. That would be a quick upgrade. Yeah, I also hate to burst your bubble, but I'm really skeptical about you making 275 horse at the wheels with your mods.

Get a lt1 drivehshaft locally... $15-25 if you want an upgrade an aluminum 1 piece one from a ls1 goes for about $75-150ish...

Any times or dyno runs?

Hey, thanks guys.
I guess you're right. but can you really get a driveshaft for only 15 bucks???
GM sells them for $550!!! I thought it was wierd, but i know you can pick one up from the local junkyard for about $25. (which is what i did once). But a V* driveshaft cam fit into a V6, huh? hmmm I'll check it out. Thanks again.

You can get an aluminum one piece driveshaft from gmperformance parts for about $270 or so... Looks like your car would be running low 14's or so with the cam so it seems odd that the ds would be breaking but you should get a one piece and try that.

Guys, c'mon...leave him alone on those electric superchargers...he was just trying to help pay the bills of whoever he bought those off of on eBay...

Just flat leave him alone on the superchargers.

The
and various decals
were what put him at 275 driveshaft-snapping-horsepower...

Thats Odd, Unless the driveshafts are different on non-Y87 cars. Mine came stock with a LS1 Driveshaft. you must have had bad carrier bearings. Because our D.S. are stable to over 500hp if in good condition, the rear end is a whole different story. -Tim
