temp gauge
temp gauge
hey i have a ? if someone uses a temperature switch from a 95 3.4 V6 camaro and puts it on a 1996 Z28...would that make the temp gauge on the 96 read wrong.because on the temp gauge on the 3.4 V6 does the lowest temp start with 100 or 160. thanks guys
Ya, to make it a little more clear, (It was late and I was tired when I posted) they are the same sensor, even though the dash reads different temps, the temperature is determined by resistance. The resistance changes consistantly with the different temperature. It always matches a set amount for a set degree if that makes any sense. So even though the gauge shows different temps in different positions, it takes a certain number of resistance to measure up to that temp reading on a gauge, so the gauge starts reading temp at the right resistance. Make sense? sorry if thats a little confusing. If you do a little searching for something like testing a temperature sender in a pan of water, it'll make things a little more clear on what resistance you should see on a digital multi meter in regaurds to the actual temperature.
This is also why I went with an aftermarket manual temperature gauge, with actual numbers and markings to get a real world idea of actual temp without having to have a computer hooked up to the car. I cant stand the guesstimated gauges that just give you a general idea of whats going on.

Found a good link on shoeboxs site to explain and to show what readings your lookin for. I knew he had somethin up to show what I was trying to put into words, so here ya go. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#ect
