97 camaro wont start no security light
ok heres my problem my car has been siting for about 8 months now due to the fact it wont start and i didnt wanna pour alot of money into taking it to the shop thining i would fix it myself i got lazy... the cars always had a issue with things like the radio/ windows somtimes they dont work and about 2 months b4 it stoped strting it would click for a few seconds like 8 seconds and then turn on somtimes longer. and one day it just wouldnt start every thing would turn on though and i could hear te fuel pump so i thought starter had it tested no issues so i replaced the solenoid i made the mistake of not disconnecting the batterie when i reinstalled it cause the starter touched sumthing and it sparked and now my batteries dead , i also noticed the securty light stayed on so i bypassed it and no luck ...what could still be the issue?
Get some power back to it, check voltage at starter, get a friend, one of you check voltage on the small wire on the starter while the other one tries to crank the car. If no voltage and your fuel pump is kicking on, check ignition switch on column, check plugs to ignition switch for melting, poor contact. Very common. If you get voltage to the small wire on the starter, and nothings happening, check big wire on starter while someone tries to crank it. If your seeing battery voltage, not fluctuating or anything, starter or solenoid is junk. If it drops, replace battery cable.
You car battery lead/acid plates have probably gotten covered with lead oxide from sitting too long without a charge and so the battery is unserviceable. If you can get the damned thing jumped and keep it running... drive it up to an AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts with buddy riding shotgun so you can leave the thing running and get the counterman to bring out his test equipment and give the engine the once over. Be prepared to buy a brand new battery and/or alternator and serpentine belt and belt tensioner once they've checked the electrical system over for you. They will do this for free because they want your business and will tell you exactly the state of your battery and charging system and what you will need to do about it. Good Luck with this....
