You have to buy a 97 computer and send it off to be re-program. I have one for a 5 speed for sale in the sale section. Its tuned for 3.42's and 160 thermo. That just means the fans will turn on sooner. If you dont have 3.42's you can get it re-tuned with anyone that has hp tuners.

The 96 computer is un-tunable. In 97 they also got some of the air-fuel ratio mixtures tuned a little better and most say they notice better response and idle. Not leaps and bounds but better.

Try PCMforLess. I got mine there for $240 shipped.

Or, as mentioned, find a 99 PCM and have someone tune it. Last time I checked, there are some on eBay.

A 99 model will not work for a 96. It has to be a 97

Whoops, just noticed I put '99 and not '97. Don't know why my fingers typed in '99.

But yes, you are correct...a '97 will work and then it can be re-tuned again and again.
