Am considering a Camaro 3.8 for another project. Is the starter on the driver or passenger side? I have heard that the transmission bolt pattern on the 3.8 is the same as for the 2.8 60* V6 in the older camaros. Anyone verify that?

Don't know about the bolt pattern being the same but the starter is on the drivers side under a heat shield. Fairly simple to remove.
