Should i switch to synthetic?
I was thinking of switching to a synthetic oil but I'm not sure if I should. I haven't had the oil changed in about 4500 miles.
It still looks pretty clean though so thats not a big deal. Anyway my car has 94k on it and probably has had dino oil in it for all of those miles. Will switching to a synthetic with this many miles cause any problems such as oil leaks? I don't have any leaks now but it would be nice to go longer than 3-4k on a oil change. Also, should I use 5w-30 or something different?
BTW, I didn't put this in V6 tech because its not really a V6 specific question.

Don't judge the oil on how it looks...if you are doing mostly city driving, 4500 is pushing conventional oil.
If you have any oil-related problems such as leaks or consumption, I would not switch. If your car is relatively healthy, you can switch with no problem and do 4500k on synthetic easily.
With my 90% freeway driving, I did 7000k on synthetic, oil results showed it was still performing well enough.

I don't know, i'm using mobil 1 now and i change it at 5000 miles but it feels like it should be changed at 4000 because it's starts running rough compared to fresh oil, i'm thinking of going back to standard and just using synthetic like once a year to clean the engine good because i don't think it is worth the extra $20 every 4500 miles, by that time it's actually cheaper to change standard every 3000 miles. I'm not really decided on anything yet because i've only changed the oil twice sinced i owned the car but if i was in your shoes i would stick with standard and change it evey 3000. The car runs so much smoother with new oil so the way i see it the more you have to change the better.
