Secruity Disable
hey guys... sorry it has been a while.. i have a question about the the secruity system on my 95 camaro 3.4L. When someone is trying to steal the car the secruity light comes on and the car wont start. great if someone is trying to steal it, but not when i have the keys. is there some way that i can turn off this system so that she will start. thanks a lot and thanks for a great place to find answers.
How long has this problem been going on?
It could be the VATS system itself or something as simple as a dirty key. I had the same problem happen to me a couple of years back and after giving the key a good clean up everything was good to go. I would check the chip on your key first to make sure there isn't a build up of some type covering it before going into anything else. I just had to use a small amount of water on a paper towel then dried it off good.
Just let us know if that works or not

Still not working
i have cleaned the key every day and it has happened a couple times since then.... Last night there was an ambulance alarm for someone having a heart attack and my car wouldn't start... i need to get this fixed... how would i disablt the secruity box or what ever it is... thanks.... ben
Sounds like a Vats problem, as long as the problem is between the reader at the ignition and the first connection under the steering column its an easy bypass.
First get a multimeter and touch each side of the resister on your key to figure out what resistor number you have:
1= .402k You wont have this, only on Vettes as far as I can tell
2= .523k
3= .681k
4= .887k
5= 1.130k
6= 1.470k
7= 1.870k
8= 2.370k
9= 3.010k
10=3.740k
11=4.750k
12=6.040k
13=7.500k
14=9.530k
15=11.800k
Now get a resistor from radio shack that matches your key, get it close but doesnt have to be exact ( to the tenth should be plenty close) , you may even have to mix a few resistors to get the right value, just tell the guy there what value your looking for (like 3.?) and he should be able to take care of you.
Then under your dash and out of your steering column youll find an orange wire casing with 2 little white wires going into a black connector, dissconnect this.
Now theres many ways to go from here, but this is what I do, snip the connector end from the column a few inches back so you can reuse the connector, connect your resistor between the 2 white wires on the connector and plug it right back into where you found it and walla, no more vats, the car is fooled into thinking the resister is in place all the time.
