3.8 to LS6 swap

So why not go for the LS6 swap instead of the straight LS1 swap? Been thinkin of doing this after driving a Z06, man what a rocket!

Yes, an LS6 would be nice, but how many totalled Z06's are sitting around Jacksonville or Springfield (wherever you are...)?
If you got the means necessary, than why wouldn't you?

why not get a used LS1 and put the LS6 intake manifold and cylinder heads on it. you can buy an aftermarket cam and essentially have an LS6 that puts down more power than a stock one.

If you're going to spend $$$ on the swap, you'd be best off buying an LS1, getting some GTP heads (the company, not the car), a Thunder racing cam in the 220 to 224 duration range with a nice set of headers. Over 400rwhp easily. LS6 What??

I'm going to do the same thing to my 2000 Camaro. Buy an LS1 for about $1500-$1800 (used), dealer is $4600 w/o intake. Put some better headers, intake, heads and beefed up trans. It'll be alot cheaper than straight up buying an LS6. Any body know any other place other than E-bay.com to buy good LS1's?

LT4- essentially a LT1 with a modified crank, modified heads, hot cam, and differant intake setup, used in vettes with the Z16 code (grandsport).
LT5- an OHV 32valve v8 built by mercury marine under contract from GM. it ws designed by GM with help from lotus, came in the ZR-1 vettes only.
LS6- A 454ci option in the 1970 and 71 chevelle or the base engine for the 2001 and up Z06 option vette, basicly an LS1 with a differant intake manifold, diffeant heads, cam and the tubular exhuast "manifolds" are tweeked.

sorry for the little engine history lesson guys.

i agree with gettin a used LS1, grab some new heads, cam and a LS6 manifold or even the holley/ligenfelter manifold. that should do the trick and cut down on cost a tad, but you are still goign to spend a bundle

Well I am starting this swap right now as far as the ls6 stick with the ls1 and do the h/c, but ls6 would run about 5-6k for the crate motor there is a company in phoenix I think that sells the ls6 swap into z28 or t/a for 6995 installed. How ever the ls6 does require some modification to fit the fbody the oil pan has to be swapped for an fbod oil pan.

As far as the ls1 swap. I did go through ebay but I researched and talked to the company I bought it from before hand. I got mine from www.fpartssalvage.com They specialize in vettes selling rebuilding them But Guy the internet rep is the fbody man. I got pretty much everything needed for the swap for under 5k. This is an 01 ls1 all accessories. pcm, wiring harness, various sensors and hoses, t56 tranny, clutch, shifter, clutch hydraulics, peddle assempbly, guage cluster, drive chaft, torque arm, complete front suspension/k member. complete rear axle (disk to disk.) All out of an 01 SS. I actually drove up and saw thier operation looked top notch and talking to Guy he was very nice and knowledgable. Now I get to assemlbe all this crap and I will be the happiest man alive.

you forgot about the stronger block in the LS6 with enhanced breathing between the cylinders. (the LS6 block is just slightly better than the LS1 block)

You forgot about the hollow stemmed intake valves and alloy exhaust valves (which falls under the cam and valvetrain catagory, I guess)
