Re: Searched, found, gotta ask anyway.

Was thinking about wrapping my exhaust manifolds with header wraps instead of reinstalling the heat shields.
Any thoughts or known alternatives?
Cuz my heat shields have had it. All cracked and rusted up.

i think people might get rusted headers if they put wrap?
but I would think you could just use header paint over them and
make them waterproof.

Yeah, my heat shields are looking ruff too.
I hate it when the heat shield bolts get tightened down together
and it bends the heat shield.

Well, slapped some jb weld on 'em last night. Just wanting to quiet down the rattle I think they're causing. See what happens. Installing tonight.

Ok, now I'm ready to reinstall the alternator, but when I took it out, the BATT terminal unscrewed from the housing and now it's rattling inside and the terminal just slides in with nothing holding it. How do I get the housing apart so I can reassemble the guts?
I'm almost done, and I hate that something like this is holding me back. lol

Re: Searched, found, gotta ask anyway.

Something else that's got me concerned...
When I installed the lower intake manifold, I torqued all the bolts down. Then when I went back to double check the torques, I got another good quarter turn on EACH bolt. Repeated this about 4 times. I'm thinking that the RTV just seeped out a bit each time. Is this a reason to consider pulling and reinstalling the lower manifold?
Any thoughts on this one please... don't wanna have it all together and find out I need to redo it.
Thanks

A mechanic guy on another board said that you gotta torque the lower manifold 3 times BECAUSE of the RTV. So cool on that one.

Any Ideas with the Alternator? Just pull the 3 screws and pull it apart? Or does the pulley have to come off?

Re: Searched, found, gotta ask anyway.

Ok,
Got done last Thursday. Haven't posted 'cuz was busy with an airshow, BUT...

1. "Runs" great, but seems like I've lost a significant amount of power. Maybe the gaskets I installed are thicker than the ones I removed and that decreased compression?

2. I "repaired" the exhaust manifold heat shields before reinstalling. In order of installation: Exhaust manifold gasket - "Inner Heat Shield" - Exhaust Manifold - Outer Heat Shield. The Chiltons AND Haynes both say that the "Inner Heat Shield" IS the exhaust manifold gasket. Should I have left that out when reassembling? Cuz the gaskets that came with the gasket set were... well hell, looks kinda like this:

0--0-0

But the heat shield is a big piece of metal. I'm rambling, but just trying to get everything across and hoping somebody knows what the hell I'm talking about. lol
Anyway, I'm wondering if I've created an exhaust leak by installing one gasket (new one) on top of the other (inner heat shield).

Any ideas?
