Rough Starts and Falls on its face
Rough Starts and Falls on its face
Bare with me this could get confusing:
94 Camaro V-6 Auto. Sometimes it is rough starting even when it is cold or at running temperature. Most of the time it wont start up on the first roll over. It begins to start gets to about 4-600 rpms and then stalls. It normally starts on the second turn of the key and idles out normally. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
Also, if it happens to start up on the first key turn the rpms start up normally and then shoots up to like 2500 rpms, idles high and then comes back down to normal idle and then runs fine.
I have tried just turning the key to the on position and making sure the fuel pump comes on and gets up to pressure and then shuts off before I try starting it. I thought maybe the fuel pump was getting weak, but the same two problems above occur.
Occasionally you will get a normal start out of the car
Another problem, I believe:
I have never driven or rode in a 6 cylinder camaro before this one. So i dont really know what to expect out of the motor. This may be a problem related to up above. While driving and getting on it and running first gear to high RPM around 4000-5500 i should guess, the car feels like it is falling on its face. It feels like a stutter and is holding itself back. I know the 3.4 is no speed demon, but this feels like a major power loss. As soon as you let off enough for second to kick in and get back in it it feels fine. It only feels sluggish and held back in the higher rpm range. The car even though it has only 160 hp should run in my belief, a little bit better than what it is. If you drive the car normal, as if you were taking a sunday cruise in a caddy it runs and drives fine. Just wanting the little power it has to return. My 92 170 hp RS puts this to shame. Shouldnt this be a very close run with even the 6 cylinder possibly winning?
Working on getting fuel filter changed and installing new plugs, but raining today. Currently trying some fuel injector cleaner

i have same problem
i have a 96 3800 v6,just bought it.sometimes it doesnt wantt to start.it turns over but immediately dies.i scanned it and its showing code p0102 MAF sensor low input.what exactely does this mean? should i replace the MAF sensor? could it be before the MAF sensor?the car runs great with plenty of power otherwise, but hard to start other times.please help has anyone been through the same problem?
i've got a 94 M5 3.4 and have the same exact problems w/ starting. hardly ever starts on first try, and starts fine the second try. it will rev the rpms up to bout 2500 also, but i can't figure out why. i've replaced my plugs and wires, etc and it still happens. if neone has any ideas that would be great. maybe its jsut something that happens w/ the earlier 4th gens, i dunno. as for the power part i feel ya there too. the 3.4's have pretty beefy low end torque but the engine jsut seems to fall off at higher rpms. doesn't shutter or anything though. course you have to remember that that 160 hp is tryin to pull almost 4000 pounds.
