reading SES codes on '98

anyone know howto read SES codes on a '98? there's got to be a way to do it without a diagnostic tool, right?

i got the SES light about 6 times now because of misfires, i'm hoping it can tell me which cylinders are the problem.

i think you would need that diagnostic tool because that ses light can come on with anything. what do you or the car do when it goes off?

i replaced the plugs and wires and now i get terrible hesitation. i put the old ones back in and its still the same. i'm thinking one of the coils burned out because a couple of the taylor wires were crap right out of the box. way high resistance.

i think its throwing out misfire codes for one or two cylinders, it would be nice to know which one(s).

i went to 2 autozones each 18 miles from me in opposit directions, neither would let me use their scanners, they didn't even have them in stock for purchase.

Well damn that sux - I had the exact same problem last week with my 98' and Auto Zone read the code for me for free and let me know it was the #3 cylinder that was misfiring. Further investigation showed that it was the front ignition coil. Weird thing is - it was the middle one last year I don't know what's up with those coils. But that again, is my .02
