Random Stall Out and Won't Start!! HELP!!

Ok here's the problem. Sometimes my car will randomly stall out (when I stop, not while driving). It doesn't like sputter or anything, the engine just quits running. When this happens the trip odometer resets itself to 0.0. Also, sometimes the car won't start, the battery is brand new and not dead so when I turn the key all the lights come on and stuff but when i fully turn the ignition key nothing happens. There is not clicking in the starter or any sounds whatsoever. It usually happens after it rains. Coincidence?? I'm not sure. Let me know.

My car is a 1997 Camaro RS convertible. It has the anit-theft device installed and an after market CD player. I mention this because I was talking to someone who said that the anti-theft device gets messed up when a different CD player is installed. My keys have that programmed chip in them too. My car has 103,000 miles on it.

I hope that someone can help me and lead me in the right direction on how to resolve this problem. You can either reply to this post or send me an email at Ryder4864@yahoo.com Thanks very much!

That honestly sounds like a loose connection somewhere... Make sure your grounds are tight on your battery, make sure that your alternator plug is also locked in place and not loose.

Also, just because a battery is new doesn't mean it isn't bad. I install batteries all day at Pepboys and I've seen them go bad before they're even installed! Go to Autozone or Advanced Auto and have it tested for free... then see...

Thanks for the advice, but only the trip odometer is resetting. The clock on the radio keeps perfect time and my stations don't get de-programmed. I'm willing to try anything though.

I agree that it sounds like a loose connection. The radio won't lose its time or settings after just a few seconds (and I don't think it'll ever lose its settings) but the odometer, I'm pretty sure, has no memory on it if the battery cuts real quick. I'd personally check all the connections.

Well, I'll go over her again and see if I can find anything wrong. I mean, I don't even know where to begin because its not like none of the power options are working. I could do everything but start the car. Windows, locks, alarm... ignition lights, interior lights, trunk release.. Everything worked but the starter. Who knows? Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it!

Well, my car finally died one day. I took the battery off and saw all kinds of corrosion on both the positive and negative terminals. I got a wire brush and got most of it off. We'll see if this fixes the problem. Thanks for all the help guys, I apprecaite it!

That was the problem. I haven't had any problems since then. I can't believe that it was something as stupid as that.

Sometimes it's the last, or simplest thing you can think of, or it's so simple/stupid you don't think that could be it. It happens.
