PICS - Coolant Leak - Help
I had another post but this time I have pics. My car leaks coolant when its parked on an incline. Im pretty sure this has something to do with it to say the least. Someone I know said that it was probably a cracked manifold. If you look at the pics the heads have fluid stains coming down from them. Please help me figure out what to do. Car runs OK - kinda rough at times but nothing bad enough to pull over. Doesnt seem to have any signs of blown heads IE. milky oil, sweet smelling exhaust, ect. Thanks in advance.

Re: PICS - Coolant Leak - Help
looks like u might have a manifold gasket leak like i said.. just take it in will take like 4 hours to fix if u get a good mechanic.. its a little pricey, 430$, but it will make ur car run a lot better if u get it fixed

Re: PICS - Coolant Leak - Help
If its just the Manifolds, just do them yourself. Its not that bad of a job. Really shouldn't need any special tools. Hard part is going to be the lack of space to work in.
EDIT:
I forgot you have the 3.4. I haven't worked on those much, so I'm not sure how big of a job those gaskets will be. So... Um.. I may stand corrected on my last statement
Lemme go look at my Hanyes manual, see if there is a decent look at them in there. I know that manual covers the 3.4... I only have the GM manuals for my 97.
EDIT (again):
Alright, I looked in the manual. It doesn't look that *that* bad of a job. But, again, I've never looked much at the 3.4 engine bay, so for all I know, most the stuff listed is a bitch to get to. But, it looks like once you have the fuel rail outta the way, you are pretty much home free. The upper is the bigger of the 2 jobs. Once that is off, you have to lose the valve covers, and the lower intake will come out pretty easy it looks like.
On a side note, you guys have a funny lookin fuel rail. :P

Um... If you've never done it before, I'd give yourself half a day or something. I dunno.
Here is what the book says:
Upper Intake
1. Disconnect battery
2. Drain Coolant
3. Remove throttle body air duct.
4. Detach fuel rail wiring harness
5. Remove harness retaining nut and move harness aside
6. Remove accelerator calbe bracket and cables
7. Detach fuel line connectors, unfasten pipe bracket, fule pipe hold-down plate.
Move Fuel line aside
8. Disconnect coolant hoses from throttle body
9. Remove fuel rail stud
10. Disconnect fuel pressure regualtor vacuum hose
11. Detach connectors from IAC, TP and MAP sensors
12. used compressed air to blow out dirt from injector bores
13. remove fuel rail
14. remove cauum harness
15. Disconnect EGR pipe
16 Remove upper intake
lower intake
1. Remove upper intake (already done if you did the first part)
2. Remove valve covers
3. disconnect upper radiator house and heater hose
4. detach wiring harness ground leads
5. Unfasten lower intake bolts/screws, remove lower intake.
I would have scanned the pages.... but I don't have a scanner

Re: PICS - Coolant Leak - Help
When I pulled my engine, I got all my gaskets are either NAPA or Autozone.
NAPA sells stuff closer to OEM I think and Autozone sells Felpro.
Lots of people on here seem to hate Felpro for some reason. If I remember right, both of my intake sets came from felpro. I've had no problems with them since I put the engine back in.
And good call on getting a manual, even if you only get a $20 basic Hanyes or Chilton manual, its better than nothing.
Good Luck!

Ah.... Lets see.
Now remember, we have different engines, so we will need different gasket sets, so Prices may vary.
I don't think it was more than $40-$50 for the gaskets I needed.
From the sound of things for yours you will need:
Upper Intake Gasket
Lower Intake Gasket
Valve Cover Gasket Set
Again, I'm not too knowledgeable on the 3.4, but I think those are all the gaskets you'll need.
If you go to napa's website you can look up what you need.
I did a quick search, but I only saw 1 intake gasket set, not and upper and lower.
But that, along with the Valve covers will run you about $30, plus whatever you pay for the second intake set.
