Unhappy Need a new throttle body...

The dealership is quoting me $800, parts and labor for this. How much is a new throttle body and can I do it myself?

Best bet is go to junkyard. You should be able to do it yourself. Make sure you grab exact same one because on ours I have a 99 V6 also the maf sensor is built onto the throttlebody. Should be just 1 clamp for intake and 4 bolts into intake manifold and like 3 electrical plugs I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Need a new throttle body...

Yeah, I've tried calling around the junkyards. No one around here has anything beyond the 90's.

I called, Napa, Pep Boys, Checker, Autozone, and a few other local places the only ones that had anything were the dealer and Autozone.

The dealer wants $585+tax for an OEM.

Autozone wants $299 for an Edelbrock. Would this one work?

Re: Need a new throttle body...

UPDATE--

So I bought that TB from Ebay. The install was easy. I started it, it idled rough for a minute or so then died. Then I tried variations. i.e. my MAF, his TB. My TB, his MAF. Then back to my TB and my MAF. It didn't start. It used to start, now it does not!!

I hate to say that I'm tempted to suck it up, and give it back to the dealer. I'd just hate to do that.

Any thoughts?

I don't think so, it's pretty self explanatory... there's 1 10mm bolt, and 2 10mm nuts. Pretty simple.

Angry Re: Need a new throttle body...

So the dealership called. Aparently it wouldn't turn over becuse there was coolant in the spark plugs. So they want $280 to change the plugs and clean it up. They said they have to do that before they can diagnose anything (else).

So I ask them, "Well is that covered by my AUL warranty?"

"Well, no becuase you worked on it yourself"

"No, I was replacing the throttle body, which didn't work, then I put the orignal back on"

"Yeah, but you did the work yourself."

"What does changing the throttle body have to do with coolant in the spark plugs!?"

"We've gotta clean the pulgs, before we can do anything"

This **** is pissing me off. I hate dealerships.

Re: Need a new throttle body...

Weird that they first say the tb is bad now they say theres coolant in the spark plugs? Strange coolant inside a plug. I'd understant if head gasket and coolant in oil or whatever or maybe somehow in cylinder and got spark plug wet or if when tb removed and coolant leaked into motor which would of caused it to not start. You can take out one spark plug at a time and crank motor to clean it out and put new plug in.
