Oil spout leakage?

I posted a little while ago about replacing my valve cover. But now i don't think it is the valve cover. The oil spout that goes into the passenger side valve cover is very loose. There is oil all around the spout. At first i thought it was the valve cover gasket that was leaking. Now i'm not sure.

Has anyone had a oil spout come loose and leak, before? Would this be an easy fix? How would i do it?

any luck on your oil leak? I have a similar problem... I just did an oil pan gasket, which was a small part of my leaking problems... but now its obvious that the leak is coming from somewhere higher. There is a couple trails of oil starting from the top of the bell housing somewhere... havent pinpointed it yet... I was thinking of tearing into and replacing valve cover gaskets. The leak is definitely worse on the passengerside.

Im not real sure what spout you are talking about? The fill and dipstick are on the driver side.

I am probably gonna start taking things apart today until I can see exactly where this oil is coming from...

Strange thing is now that it has been very cold here, my oil leak has virtually stopped.

My oil fill spout is on my passenger side. What year do you have? Mine is a '99, 3800 v6.

I'm pretty sure my leak is the valve cover gasket and/or the oil fill spout.

mine is 95 3.4. Ive just about got the plenum off, so can then take off the valve covers. I hit a speed bump though... I dont have a fuel line tool.

Im hoping I can find a trick to get those lines apart, instead of going to buy the tool... probably better to just get the right tool.

Hopefully once the plenum and all that other stuff is out of the way I can better locate the source of my leak...

cold weather fixed your leak, hmm.. thats pretty strange

Sounds good. How many hours into it are you?

The cold didn't fix it, it just slowed it down a lot. But today is warm and i could smell the oil leaking a few minutes ago when i went for a drive.

Clean it up very well and drive it around for a few days and observe where the fresh oil is coming from. I really doubt it is the oil spout, but it is possible I guess.

Well, I got the valve covers off... dang there is a lot of crap in the way. My Jeep its cake, just take off the valve covers. This stupid 3.4 has just about everything in the way.

Anyways, its hard to tell if the leak is from the valve covers or could it be from the back of the intake manifold. I think you have to undo all the valve train because the push tubes go thru the intake manifold gasket? Dont really feel like messing with all that, but if that is where the leak it, itd be worth it I guess...

Think it could really be the back of the intake manifold. or you think it is probably just the valve covers??

Thanks!

it got a new rear main a couple months ago, and there is definitely oil on top of the bell housing (on the outside top).

I am thinking most of the leaking was from the oil pump drive o-ring. The old one was like plastic...

How long did it take for you to fix it? And what tools did you use? Is it a difficult fix?

It took me a good while, but thats cause I pulled a lot of other stuff off too. I went all the way down to intake manifold gasket. I have only driven it around a little since having it all back together, and I still get a little bit of a drip. Im hoping that its just residual working its way down, and not an actual fresh leak.

If you just wanted to go after the oil pump drive, you might could reach it from the bottom. I can reach up and around the flywheel housing and could probably get it done that way... But I dont know for sure where it is on a 3.8 or if it even has one.?

Ok thanks. In my engine i don't think there is much of anything at all around the valve cover. The alternator is right there though i don't know if it needs to be removed. I don't really want to shell out 250 bucks just for a stupid gasket. Not sure what i'm going to do yet.

I had a mysterious leak as well on my 3.4l and after one of my friends looked at it in his shop he found it. The way he relayed it to me sounded like it was the top of the oil pump drive shaft. anyhow, he cleaned everything up and replaced an o ringl and rtv'ed it and it hasn't leaked since. He said it was a beeyatch to get to though- top back of the block. hope this helps
