Octane DOES make a difference!!!

No problems or anything but just stating... For the past few weeks I've been putting regular 87 Octane in my car, partially because it's the only thing I could afford, well here in GA gas FINALLY reached $2.00 so I decided screw it it's ALL going to kill me. I threw in some plus and filled it up. Here's my results on an AVERAGE basis.

Regular 87 Octane, NO Fuel Injector Cleaner = 250 - 300 miles
Regular 87 Octane, + SeaFoam Injector Cleaner = 290 - 340 miles
89 Octane, NO Fuel Injector Cleaner = 310 - 370 Miles
89 Octane, + SeaFoam Injector Cleaner = 320 - 390 Miles

All results were produced over the following conditions...

- Last Tune up - 1 month ago
- OilChange - 3,000 miles OVERDUE (don't worry I changed it now)
- 35% Highway miles 65% Street miles
- Little to no LeadFoot restriction
- Avg Road Speed - 45 MPH
- Avg Highway Speed - 70 MPH
- Traffic Conditions - Light: 35%, Average: 50%, Heavy: 20%
- A/C usage - None (it's broke! )

I tried PREMIUM (93 Octane) gas aswell because I have a place where I can get it discounted at about the price of PLUS (89 Octane) gas... there wasn't enough variance between the two for me to post it though.

Strange, your motor was built to run on 87 just fine unlike the LS1. Hey, whatever works man.

ok..well dunno how accurate that is but if i run anything higher than 87 or 89 at the track my e.t.'s loose almost a 1/10th

that because the high octane slows the burn rate of the fuel so much that it actually hurts maximum horsepower....theres been tests confirming it...

i know that

i was just informing some of the other ppl here

higher octane is a slower burn and loss of power

Dumb question but then why do V8's need 93 + octane if higher octane DECREASES performance? and does this mean the label thats says "0-60 Booster" on Octane booster's is B.S. ?...

that booster does next to nothing at all

and the higher performance cars need it because it has a higher flash point so higher compression doesnt detonate it

higher octane only decreases performance in motors with a compression ratio low enough not to require it. if its designed to run on 87, it will usually run BEST on 87. on the other hand the LS1/LT1 compression ratio is well over 10:1. put 87 in one of those motors and the car will run like absolute GARBAGE.

also, unless you have too much carbon build-up in the motor, this "0-60 booster" is a load of crap. excess carbon build-up will slightly raise the compression ratio and may cause the computer to retard timing (and thus hurt performance) in order to prevent detonation due to the new compression ratio. if the motor runs correctly on whatever grade of gasoline is designed to run on, octane booster doesnt do anything...
