no "pull" at high RPMs

Ok, I went to pass a car today, and so i floored it. Well, after it got to 4K RPMs, it seemed like the engine was struggling to get going. Like, it was slowly inching its way up. The exhaust also sounds a little different.

Well, 2 days ago I got a SES light. It was for a misfire in cylinder 1. We cleared the code, and adjusted the spark plug wires, and the light never came back on.

So, do you think it might still have a missfire? It never acted like this before, it usually got up to speed pretty decent, now it takes it a lot longer to reach anything above 4K RPMs. Should I just replace the plugs and wires? The SES light hasnt come back on, but this is just bothering me really bad. Thanks!

Old and new plugs can mean the difference between 10% more or less hp. Even with as little as 5,000 miles on them.
check your coil packs and wires.
That 3.8 car should pull good past 4000 not bog down.

Misfires DO occur without the SES light. Sometimes they can go on for months unnoticed before they get bad enough that they trigger the SES light. Check your O2 sensors too however.

i would check your cat also...it might be clogged and that would change your exhaust note a lot, also check your o2 sensors.....

I'm sure there're supposed to have a certain impedence (ohm rating) as well as not have tons of carbon buildup on them. I don't know what they measure. If they're easy to take off i go check real quick for ya.
