edit- just noticed your from Ca, if you cut the cat off and start it to check it, dont drive it like that so you dont get pulled over and ticketed.

Also--- Welcome to the board.

Edit again--- You should be able to just unbolt the cat, Im not sure exactly how they set it up on the 3.8, but at least that way if it is bad you can "legally" take it to have a new one put on.

At that point, I would rescan the car and get the exact codes, those could be very beneficial. Especially if it is a misfire code related specifically to one or more cylinders. Otherwise, you are just going to keep throwing parts at it in hopes of correcting a problem which you may or may not accomplish.

It's probably the cat. My car started missing and losing power bigtime last week. Took it to a trans shop because I thought it was the trans slipping. He said it wasn't making enough power and that was causing the trans issue. I replaced the coil packs since he said he saw a cylinder misfire. That didn't fix it and I could hear the cat rattling. Took it to the dealer and that's the issue. I'm just under the 8 year 80K mile warranty so I'm getting it replaced for free tomorrow.
