Exclamation need help, car all messed up

Alright, on my way somewhere I noticed the smell of coolant. Took a look under the hood and notice that there was coolant coming from the water pump drip hole. I added more coolant and went on my way later on after almost overheating about 4 times trying to get home… getting to about 235 degrees water temps I got a new water pump. Installed it, filled the radiator with water and turned on the car. Got black smoke, a tapping noise and idles at about 1200 RMPS. Anyone have any idea how to fix this. Thought I got some electrical wet and caused it to run rich but didn’t fix after drying plugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my only means of transportation.

I have a 1997 Camaro RS with a 3.8L engine. I’m thinking that a valve / valve spring went bad.

SpeedJunkyMike.. Never type like that again...

Anyways, there's a chance you could have burned a valve. Have you checked them recently?

Thanks for the suggestion, it took 3 people 2 days to find out it was a bolt that I didn’t tighten . The high revs were because the car was cold and the black smoke was from god knows what … most likely stress that was put on the engine while running hot.
