whats up im new and im about to turn 16 and i cant decide what kind of car to get and i want a camaro but i here that they arent very reliable and good cars so just let me know what ou guys think.
Hey, welcome to the board. Camaros can be reliable if you take care of them(change oil every 3000 mi., and stuff like that). I haven't had any major mechanical trouble on my car except for routine maintaince. For your insurance question, i pay $220 a month for my 94' v6 and im 20 years old on my own plan and ive totaled a car before so my insurance is a bit more than normal. With you being 16, it might be easier for your car to go under your dads name and insurance. (im not sure <18 year old can have a car under their name or not) I'd say you'd probably pay 140 a month for insurance for a v6 and maybe 170 - 200 a month for a z28. Thoes numbers are just guesses. If you get your own insurance, you can expect to pay alot more than under your parents name. Maybe you are your parents could call up their insurance company and get a more accurate quoat on what your insurance would be.

These cars last a long time, I see a lot of mid 80's camaros still on the road.
My 85 v6 and 85 IROC z28 are the best used cars I have ever had, there more reliable than my mom and step dads early 90s 4cyl cars and 91 jeep wagon, 91 F-150. and they have a 91 rs camaro it had a clutch problem once a few years ago.
There real easy to work on too

The only quality problem I have had with either Camaro was the power windows. The drive trains are great. Insurance varies a lot. Where you live, amount you drive, amount of coverage, grades, even your gender determines part of how much you pay for insurance. I was paying 2k a year for full coverage on clean record on my V6 camaro. I pay almost 4k a year on the SS for full coverage and on a clean record (unless they find out about my latest ticket). One thing is for sure though, insurance isn't cheap on these cars, its just a matter of how much you get ripped off.
I have a clean record and mine is 1600 every 6 months for a 1997 V6... A 94' Z28 would have been $836 every 6 months... I'm kinda kicking myself for that one, but my cars in pretty tip top shape over some 94's I looked at. I also like the newer interior/dash more then the old, but its not worth the $1600 a year difference, for that much I coulda swapped.
Thats under my moms insurance too, I'm gonna look at some other carriers though this one is weird, they woulden't let me put the car in my name even though I'm 18 and I had to get the same coverage as her, which is still liablity only...

$6300
a year for my Z28 under my name so i put it under my moms and i pay $1400 and change a year for full coverage....not too bad i think
...good luck with the car search....
BTW im 18 and the only ticket on my record is a cell-phone violation....

I was in the same boat as you about a year ago. I turned 17 in september. I had my dads volvo at first, but I wanted a camaro, but he refused to let me get a z28 because of the power and I know agree with him. Anyway my v6 is for sale if you are interested just email at little.devil5@verizon.net but this is besides the point. My v6 is a 99 and it has just under 50,000 miles on it. The only problems I ever had with it where a burnt out window motor and a messed up left turn signal. Well I did need a new cat, but nothing too major. It gets pretty good gas milage. I dont drive that much, which is a surpise since im a 17 year old guy, I went 3 weeks with out getting gas once...thats how much I drove, but yeah besides the insurance I would look into a camaro more.
Insurance is really a rip off now. Insurance compains complain they are loosing many, but they arent. Anyway, yeah insurance on a v6 is still pretty high. I actually found a 98 z28 today im in the purchasing process right now...well me and my dad are. My dad is trying to go through an independent insurance company and put me as a second driver on just this car. It worked for a few of my dads friends and their kids so im hoping it will work for me. So close to the z28...I HATE INSURANCE!
