my firebird lost to a grand am gt???

whats up everyone, im new to this site, and i have a real problem, i have a 2000 pontiac firebird a4. i got the 3800 motor wit a posi rear and 3.42's in the back and my buddy was talking crap sayin his rental car a 2004 grand am gt coupe will beat me, so i gave it a go, knowing i could take him cause i had a 99 and i thought it was slow. so i raced him twice, the first time i had my traction control on, and it made a funny noise and i got beat by 2 cars. to add to this i raced him again, at the next light, i took off the traction control, and i revved to about 2k rpm, i launched and just spun while he smoked me. i never had a problem wit launching until now. i just would like some imput on what car is faster stock, all i got is a flowmaster 80 catback but i thought i could take him? any imput would be much appreciated thanx. o yea, and my car isnt that strong top end, cause i got my *** handed to me by a 03 eclipse gt conv. lol

175 hp. 3.4L. V-6 engine the Grand-Am GT gets a 0-60 7.7 seconds. optional traction control 205 lb. ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. 15.9 second quarter mile time

your 3800 (3.8 liter) V6, yielding 200 horsepower and 225 foot-pounds of torque should do 15 flat

i tink there som wrong wit jou car mein

yeah if you are rollin on 18's thats a lot of the problem, and if you spun much then driver error comes into play, personally on the street i never stall the converter when racing (even when im on my slicks)

My friends 3.4l 01 Grand Am was able to keep up with the 3.8l Camaro I had. He was within a car length at 60mph.
