LT1 in a 98 V6
LT1 in a 98 V6
Im sure its possible to swap a motor into anything these days. I just want to know if there are any kits with motor mounts adaptor plates etc to swap an LT1 into a 98 Firebird V6? can this be done with ease?
Should be relativley straight forward... the 98 isn't that much different than the 97 that came stock with an LT1. A more logical question would be "could I swap an LS1 into a 98?" since then you would have some chance at meeting emissions requirements (you can't "swap backwards" as far as emissions are concerned).
And the usual caveat.... "possible?" - yes. "Cost effective?" - probably not. You need the complete engine, computer, wiring harness, probably a different K-member, a complete rear axle since few V6's came with a posi rear or disc brakes. Then you probably need bigger front brakes... not sure if the V8's and V6's used the same ones. Then the connections to the accessories will be different - A/C, power steering.... requiring an interface. Then there's the issue of driveshaft and tranny.... you don't want to drop a 5.7L V8 on a 5-speed.... life expectancy would not be too good. It isn't a matter of "kit" and "adapter plates".... its simply substituting the factory V8 parts for the factoryV6 parts.
In the long run a "trade-in" is usually cheaper.
I would suspect this question would be better asked and answered on "V6 Tech"..... moving it there.
