i think i have a problem
i just traded my old pickup for a 95 v6 convertible camaro it has a great body top isnt to good but hey im going to turn it into a lt1 in 4 to 5 months. anywho i need it to drive till then but it ran great the first couple of weeks yeasterday and today i was driving down the road and i was in 4th at about 45mph or so and it putted like it wasnt gettting any power and then shut off it took three times to start it and then it ran fine but it has done it before but not shut off if i shift into a lower gear or step on the gas it doesnt do it. it sits at or if im at a light the rpm will drop down and shut off this has only happend like3 times this week it may be my fuel pump but i dont think it would start up easy if it was i live in hurst tx if no one can answer on here maybe i can meet with someone and they can see for them selves
so electrical would screw me when im sitting in 4th or whatever gear for awhile? im just wondering why would it be so easy to start up but if i stay in a gear to long or im in idle on the road it shuts off my jeep did it sometimes but it was carb maybe it is electrical where would i start>?
ses=service engine soon light. it's in your gage bezel. if you're in canada, it's a yellow picture of an engine that lights up. i think the only way to read the ses codes, is to get diagnostic software like autotap, or bring it to a dealer to get it 'scanned.' i don't know if the hypertech can read codes?

i guess i'm stating the obvious here, but the ses light only comes on if there's a fuel or emissions related problem. your owner's manual has a list of things that will turn on the ses light, and you could check those out. those are the simple things that can turn on the light, but ya never know, your problem may be the cause of one of those simple things. if you can't figure it out, go get it scanned...

well, definately get the SES codes read, it will save you alot of time and money. If there is a Autozone near you, most will do it for free. It might be your crank position sensor. I've heard a few people (including myself) who have had a problem with this. On mine the sesnor didn't go bad but just got dirty because I had a power steering leak and dirt and grime covered it. But if you feel its a fuel problem check if you can 1st hear your fuel pump power up when you have the key in the on postion. if you can, from there check fuel pressure at the schrade r valve.
When you first turn you key into the ON position the one right before you start the car the ses light will come on.
In terms of checking it i forget how to do it exactly but if you pop off the fuse lid (its right above the drivers feet) there is a way you can check your ses codes with a paper clip. Run a search or check thirdgen.org im sure they have info somewhere telling you how to check it.

here ya go
DISPLAYING THE TROUBLE CODES
Run a wire/hairpin from Pin 6 to Pin 12 with the ignition off (although on later cars it should be from Pin 5 to Pin 6), then turning the ignition to the on position without starting the engine will flash the "Service Engine Soon" light in the following sequence: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause Following this "12" code repeating three times will come any trouble codes stored, flashing each of them three times. If you do not see the "12" flash three times, your diagnostic circuit is defective.
Some vehicles will display stored trouble codes, then "12" again, followed by energizing "most system controlled relays." The fuel pump relay will not energize. The idle air control valve will fully extend to enable checking minimum idle speed.
CLEARING THE TROUBLE CODES
Turn the keyswitch to the off position. To clear any trouble codes, disconnect the power feed for 30 seconds. If this is done at the battery, and your car stereo is equipped and programmed with a four digit pin code, you may have to re-enter that as well to use your stereo again. A better place to remove power is at the fuse.
