high rpm

today when i turned on my 94 camaro, my cars rpm in park and neutral has been at 2500 rpm instead of in the usual 1000 rpm area. does anyone know why this is? when i put the car into drive it goes on its own. when i brake it feels like the car is fighting against me to keep going.

Re: high rpm

I had a truck that did pretty much the same thing. I dont know if it would be for the same reason but in my truck the throttle was sticking.

Re: high rpm

yeah, i'd give the throttle body, and ALL its sensors a clean... then reset the pcm and try from there

Cool Re: high rpm

it's got to be one of the sensors on the trottle body I believe it's the TPS (Trottle Position Sensor)

Re: high rpm

i'd put money on it being the IAC - idle air control, sensor... kinda makes sense that that'd be the problem

Talking Re: high rpm

I just posted like an hour ago about high rpm's and I just solved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cleaned the plugs with an air compressor and messed with them while the car was running (in park of course) just turn on your car and plug and unplug the two sensors until the RPM's go down it worked on mine! hope it will work on yours!

Re: high rpm

could be a vacuum leak somewhere, too. i'd check for that as one of the first things.
