Governor Switch Removal
Governor Switch Removal
I am wanting to know if anyone can tell or show me how to get rid of the ever annoying governor switch. My governor hits at 115 and I know my car can do well over 140..... I have a 94 3.4L and need this removed. Is there any way???????? Thnx for input Soccaballa2k4@aol.com
Not very "Advanced"....but its in the computer, and dont be so sure your 3.4 will do that, at least not very quickly. Your car probably didnt come with Zrated tires, no reason to, and if its an automatic or a convertible you will have a guvnor.
Your PCM will need to be reprogrammed in other words.

Governor
I have a Governor, I've hit it before, and it's a regular ole V6. Is there anywhere u know of where I can take it or what kind of business will do it or anything I can buy to do it myself. THnx
You can buy programmers to remove/raise the govenor, rev limiter, etc...But dont get your hopes up too much...i really doubt your car will do "well over 140"...unless you got some serious mods..like an LS1 under the hood

When I topped out the V6 camaro I had (98 3.8l) I got up to 118mph (probably a 115mph limiter) and the rpms were pretty high, you might be able to get close to 140.
I don't know what the LS1 is cappable of. The majority of them have a 160mph speed limiter, which most people don't have a need to remove.

Right
Well you hit governor in 4th at only 4 1/2 RPM's and you still have a 5th. If it's an automatic the top speed is gonna be slightly different. But my governor is wierd, sometimes it kicks in 115, or 110, one time it let me get to 120....I just wanna get rid of it.

eventually the drag on your car will keep you form accelerating...
no way are you going... well over 140 mph in a 3.4L maybe 130-140 but not well over 140
jsut unhook the VSS, not aure if it works on autos...

So if your car is like that..than it probably wont pull 5th gear. Also..i would like to see what LS1 is out there right now doin 200 mph, w/out serious, serious motor work...vettes cant even do 200..there lighter, and more aerodynamic.

On the L460E There are 2 speed pick ups.
1 is a "govener switch"
2 is the VSS
The governer switch is on the left side infront of the tail shaft houseing near the top of the transmission.
The VSS is on the transmission tail shaft housing its self near the bottem leave that one.
Find out if the switch is normaly open or normaly closed, if you cut the wire and your car doesn't work it's normaly closed and you will need to ground it to the frame some where (or short it to the other wire coming off the govener if there is one). If it works fine after you cut it tape it off so it dosen't flap around and ground out.
If you have a T-5 there is the VSS (near the top or left side past the back half of the trans) and that is all I rember being on the trans and on a 92 (highest yr. my book goes to) the VSS is conected to the ECU.
So you might have to kill the govener switch and cut the VSS where it goes into the ECU.
Your speed "O" is eletronic so pulling the VSS might mean a dead speed o unless you cut it where it goes into the ECU.
On my 85 I can cut it because my speed o is mechanical and the VSS is only an ECU pick up.
