have a 97 v-6 camaro 3.8.i started the car went on reverse then the car just shutt off,when i try restarting it it rattles and makes small explosions,thst the best way i can describe it.i wont stay running .can anyone please help with some advise,thanks to all.

 

Sounds like its misfiring bad, could be any number of things from spark plug wires, the plugs them selves, coils jumping a tooth in the timing chain. Its hard to diagnose unless I was actually there and listening to it. First I would check your plugs and wires, also check to see if you have any codes in your computer. Did you do anything to it, like change out a part just before this? Any symptoms before this happened or was it all of a sudden?

 

yeah sounds like a bad missfire and from the sounds of it a dead coil. First check your plugs wires and coils for physical damage or signs of being worn out and need replacing. Also try moving the coils around and see if the missfire fallows the coil. Your car is a 97 so its obd2 with misfire detecting so use that to your advantage.
