Post A few questions about O2 sensors...

My car is a 94 3.4 A4. I was wondering

1)How many O2 sensors are on the car?
2)Where are they (I know of 2...are there more?)?
3)About how much are they to replace each?
4)What tools will i need to replace them?

1) 2
2) Just one on each exhaust manifold
3) about $30 each
4) An O2 sensor socket, this will have a groove in the side of it for the wire to go through. Also, when I replaced mine I had to use a breaker bar to get them loose because they were on there TIGHT. But, you may be able to get yours out with a regular socket wrench.

Are you having problems with the sensors right now? If not then I wouldn't waste my time changing them out.

It was around the time OBD2 pcms came out that 4 O2 sensors were being used. Guess they wanted to control the emissions even farther?

Actually, funny enough, I just swapped mine out two days ago. Had a bunch of stuff to do before I go back to college, and that was one of them.

Anyway, they're pretty easy to change out. You don't need the O2 socket to get them out, as the new sensors will have wires in them anyway. I just hand-tightened down the new sensors, and put some anti-seize compound on the threads; I don't want them to rust up like the other ones.

I wanted to change them because I've had my car since 72k, now it has 108k and they've never been changed (at least not while I've had it).

Well I cleaned my TB, K&N, changed my PCV valve, and changed the drivers side O2 sensor with no problems. I could not get the passenger side one off to save my life however. I have a breaker bar that i used on the driver side one, but there isn't enough clearance on the other side for it. With all the AC crap in the way, all I can fit down there is a socket wrench and I cant get any leverage.

Anybody have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had some varoius extensnions and a universal socket.

I was same as you got the driver side off in 2 min.

took me 20 min. on the passenger side. God I wonder what it would be like with mt STB now?

I did mine in the VAB lot at UCF after class one day.

hehe I have worked on my car in every parking garage on campus(except new one) and maybe half the parking lots.

Where are you getting $30 for an O2 sensor? You can get Bosch at Autozone for around $20.
